Windsor Central School District:
Developing Successful Citizens
Windsor Central School District
The Mission of the Windsor Central School District is to create a stimulating environment where students are independent learners and grow to become successful citizens. This environment is created by a challenging, integrated curriculum delivered by a caring and competent staff.
The Windsor Central School District covers 110 square miles, includes the towns of Kirkwood, Windsor, Colesville and Sanford, and has over 11,000 residents. Windsor is nestled in the rolling hills of Broome County in the Southern Tier of New York. Part suburban and part rural, the district is adjacent to the City of Binghamton.
Windsor is a friendly, family-oriented community that offers a small-town feel while being close to a wide range of cultural, athletic, and educational opportunities. Binghamton University and Broome Community College are only minutes away. Other highly regarded colleges are a short car ride away. A variety of retail stores are nearby, as are recreational activities during every season.
Interstate 81 and Route 17(currently being converted into Interstate 86) run through the district, creating easy automobile access to all parts of the region and state.
District Highlights
• Over 2,120 students are enrolled in Windsor’s five schools. The district employs 170 instructional staff. An average of 20 students are in each classroom, fewer than state and local averages.
• Breakfast and lunch programs are offered at each school.
• In 1998, district residents approved a building renovation plan. Three schools were renovated while the Middle School/Palmer Elementary School was renovated in 1992.
• The school’s Transportation Department has been commended by the New York State Department of Transportation for its excellent maintenance program. All students are eligible for curb to school busing.
• The Elementary Schools and the Middle School have active parent-teacher organizations. Each school has a Building Leadership Team, a shared decision making group. Windsor is proud of its high rate of parent involvement in school programs and activities.
• Elementary and Middle School students may choose to participate in summer enrichment programs.
• The Board of Education is composed of seven members who serve three year terms. Meetings are held at least once a month and are open to the public.
